A very pretty small still life oil on canvas, signed Sarpe and dated 1979, depicting a brass mortar with its pestle, garlic, and an egg against a soft background of brown and green tones. The work is meticulous, with luminous contrasts. The richly molded, Rococo-style frame of wood and gilt stucco beautifully complements the whole. The canvas measures 27 x 22 cm in landscape format, the frame 40 x 35 cm and 6 cm thick. In very good overall condition; the frame has been partially regilded and discreetly repaired at the top, and the canvas is clean with no losses or tears. Approximately 1.2 kg.
