Large Stoneware Beer Pitcher Glazed With Salt And Pewter Germany Westerwald Type
Superb large salt-glazed stoneware well pitcher, German made Westerwald type or Alsatian Betschdorf, unsigned, old early 20th century, inscription in lid, hand engraved 1914 probably date of manufacture or acquisition. Attractive baluster shape, large cylindrical neck, small elegant handle. Closed by a hinged lid in nicely worked gray pewter. Body decorated with highly detailed floral and plant reliefs, friezes and geometric motifs, light blue-gray background and cobalt-blue details. Very fine decorative object, collection or table use.
38.5cm max height with lid, approx. 16cm diameter. Very nice condition, a little deposit/oxidation on the metal of the lid but overall impeccable, slight deposit in the reliefs and on the base of the lid on the top of the handle. Approx. 1.2kg.
