Une Savante Paire d'Embrases In Raspberry Silk Passementerie - Empire Circa 1860
Circa 1860
France
A pair of tiebacks for a pair of curtains with four raspberry silk passementerie tassels dating from the Second Empire. Remarkable 19th-century French passementier's work, particularly in the silk-thread-covered wood supports, tassels and braided cords. Great length of sliding cords. This know-how has been inherited from the great tradition of the passementier guild since the 17th century, according to the techniques described in d'Alembert & Diderot's encyclopedia. The raspberry silk is worn, mainly on the cord crests, with some minor damage and fraying. A period patina without calling into question the solidity of the object. Stable condition.
Dimensions: Height of tassel bangs 29 cm, total height of each clasp approx. 80 cm.
