Lyon School. Hippolyte Paquier-sarrasin "quand l'Amour Déborde De La Fontaine"

Artist: Hippolyte Paquier-sarrasin
Lyon school. Hippolyte Paquier-Sarrasin. Oil on canvas "Quand l'Amour déborde de la fontaine" signed and dated lower middle Hipolyte Paquier Sarrasin 1902. 88.6 X 116.5 cm. French school.
Hippolyte Paquier-Sarrasin (1882-1961) left an indelible mark on his home town of Lyon, where he graced many of the most prestigious buildings with his talent as a master glassmaker.
It's worth noting that our painting dates from 1902 and was created by a young up-and-coming artist, as evidenced by the stamp that can be seen on the back of the canvas displaying the painter's participation in the Concours Ponthus-Cinier of 1902. Antoine Ponthus-Cinier (1812-1885) was one of the most famous representatives of the Lyon School. After his death, the Lyon master's fortune was used to create a competition to encourage young artists, often run by the Académie des Sciences, Belles-Lettres et Arts de Lyon or the Beaux-Arts.
Our painting is proof if proof were needed of the talent of this young artist, who would go on to become one of the most renowned master glassmakers in his hometown and far beyond.
The vapid style applied here through the use of pastel tones and blurred outlines creates a dreamy or nostalgic romantic impression that amplifies the decorative aspect of the painting.
