Polish School "beautiful Lascivious On The Cozy Sofa"

Artist: Jan Tadeusz Januszewski
Oil on canvas "Beautiful lascivious woman on the cozy sofa" signed lower left J. Januszewski. Polish school (Austria-Hungary). 106 X 159 at sight (107.5 X 160 cm overall). Jan Tadeusz Januszewski (1880-1967), after studying at the Lycée de Rzeszow (Galicia, Austria-Hungary), he left for Krakow (Poland, Austria-Hungary) where he entered the Academy of Fine Arts. There he followed the courses of Teodor Axentowicz (1859-1938), Jozef Mehoffer (1869-1946), Léon Wyczolkowski (1852-1936) and Jan Stanislawski (1860-1907). After his studies, he traveled through Galicia and then went to Vienna (Austria-Hungary). Around 1905, after completing the Academy, he moved to Paris (France), where he attended the studio of Eugène Carrière (1849-1906) and took classes at the Academy of Fine Arts. There, the young painter met many exiled Polish artists and took part in several group exhibitions. He then returned to Krakow, where he opened a small studio. He married in 1911. He was drafted into the Austro-Hungarian army in 1914. Jan Januszewski often complained about his precarious living conditions. He wrote to his brother Franciszek: "Prices are rising, times are hard, and painting doesn't pay." He stubbornly refused to sell some of his paintings, considering them to be part of him. He very rarely participated in official exhibitions, having neither the taste nor the means to promote himself. However, those who had the opportunity to see his works recognized in him a deeply sincere and authentic painter. His paintings were appreciated for their visual poetry, their balance of forms, and their emotional clarity. Sources: Portraits of artists, Zbigniew Wawszczak. Our painting, painted by a most talented artist, is part of the neo-impressionist vein and the symbolist movement that Januszewski had adopted in contact with his illustrious predecessors. In addition, its imposing size gives it a certain decorative value that will not leave you indifferent. Without Frame. Some repainting and small restorations (the canvas having been rolled during an old transport, the frame is later). Good general condition. 3800 euros.
