Attributed to Alfred de Dreux. Oil on canvas, "Majestic Horses Frolicking in the Meadow," unsigned. 59.5 x 73 cm. French School. Alfred de Dreux (1810-1860) was born into a family where the art of painting was a virtue. His father won the Grand Prix de Rome in architecture, and Théodore Géricault (1791-1824), a family friend, painted the portrait of young Alfred, inspiring him to paint with perfection. Alfred de Dreux, undoubtedly influenced by his elder and mentor Géricault, directed his art towards the equestrian world. Worthy of Géricault's art, De Dreux's work imbues the world of horses with values of elegance and tradition, making him one of the most talented painters of his time in this field. Our painting is a fine example of this equestrian art tradition, perpetuated by a precise and effective artist. The frame is made of wood and gilt stucco decorated with palmettes, dating from the first third of the 19th century. Good condition. €3800.
