Georges Maury. Oil on canvas "the arrival of the diligence" signed lower right G Maury. French school. 46 X 38 cm. Georges Sauveur Maury (1872-1960) was a student of Ferdinand Humbert (1842-1934) and Ernest Quost (1842-1931). He enjoyed international recognition by participating in exhibitions in Scotland, the United States of America and Denmark. With Ernest Quost, in particular, he learned to capture ambient light on canvas. Using his palette with dexterity and a gentle harmony, he created landscapes and orientalist scenes as well as historical compositions. Our painting is similar to a series of drawings made around 1908 and which illustrate a book relating to the city of Pézenas in the 17th century. Frame in modern American box. Good condition. Traces of folds in the canvas on the periphery.
