A beautiful subject, very luminous. Dated 1900
Charles Nauert, a painter and draftsman born in Paris, was a student of A. Gautier and G. Rochegrosse.
He exhibited an interior scene and a portrait at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1890 and 1891.
He also produced illustrations.
This somewhat rustic headdress, worn for protection from the sun in Provence in the south of France, is not often seen, but it appears in a painting by Théophile Henri Mayan, known as Théo Mayan, born on December 22, 1860, in Marseille and died on February 18, 1936, in Avignon, and sold at auction in Montpellier on May 31, 2026, titled “A Break During the Harvest (1893).”
