"The piece is interesting and rather rare" were the first words uttered by Mr. Roland Salmon, diector of the Musée L'universalité du Tapis d'Art Sacré, on a recent visit to our Gallery.
I concur and have rarely come across this type of piece.
The entire structure is made of woven dromedary wool on which the motifs are embroidered.
Here again, an object specifically used by the nomadic populations of Central Asia, it was most often used to create walls inside yurts, to partition a specific space.
The composition is organized around a central cross, representing the balance of the world, the 4 directions.
The other motifs symbolize protection and strength with multiple ram's horns.
