Italian Ceramic Madonna Bust By Minghetti Manifactury Bologna Early 1900s
Polychrome Ceramic Madonna bythe Italian Bolognese Minghetti Manufactury from the early 1900s, featuring a mantle decorated with small blue, pink and green flowers on an ivory color background. The pale yellow dress and light blue veil beneath are pearlescent. Under the base the inscription Minghetti in cursive script, with a small star above the M and Bologna in block capitals.
In good condition, no restorations, this polychrome ceramic bust of the Virgin Mary from the Italian Bolognese manufactury Minghetti comes from a private collection in Milan and dates from the early decades of the 20th century.
The Minghetti factory was founded in Bologna by Angelo Minghetti in 1858, initially producing plates and tableware in the Urbino Renaissance style. After his death, his son Gennaro took over, and then in 1908, Gennaro’s son Aurelio renamed the company Ceramiche Artistiche Angelo Minghetti & Figli. The business closed permanently in 1967.
