Stone Statue Head. Medieval India ?
This is the head of a large, human-sized statue. Carved in sandstone, the statue carried a container on its head, which it held with its hands, arms raised. Today, the statue has disappeared, leaving only the head, hands and part of the container. On the sides of the container are carved the characters of an alphabet unknown to us. A specialist will certainly be able to identify them, as they are still clearly legible. The statue must have been housed in a temple, and it is likely that the vessel contained a flammable liquid. The sculpture is crude but powerful and very expressive, with thick lips and wide eyes. An important detail for identification is that the two elements at the level of the lobes are not earrings, but the two ends of a tiara that partially surrounds the skull and ends by going around the ears. We do not believe they are hair. In the middle of the tiara is a disc that probably represents the sun. It's an exceptional object that should reveal some wonderful surprises. According to the family tradition of its former owners, it is a medieval Indian sculpture. Height: approx. 40cm
