English Saber With Engraved Blade Attributed To The High Peak Rifles

Artist: Harrison & Burnes London
This saber is British. It is the 1827 model for infantry officer.T he blade, attributed to High Peak Rifles, date it between 1860 and 1881. This is because regiment of volunteers from the Peak district was created in 1859-1860, when the British Kingdom feared invasion. In 1881, the High Peak rifles changed their name to the Sherwood Foresters. Of course, the sabres already in use remained in service.
High PeakRifles in the strict senseincluded : The 6th Battalion High Peak Rifles from Buxton, the 7th Battalion of High Peak Rifles from Chapel- en- le-Frith, and the 9th Battalion High Peak Rifles from Bakewell. These three localities are in Derbyshire. Overall condition is very good, and the blade is in very nice condition.
BLADE : After a 3.5 cm ricasso, it is a single-edged blade with a wide fuller up to two-thirds of the blade's length. On the last third, near the tip, the back of the blade tapers to form a counter-edge.
Both sides of the blade are richly decorated by etching with intricate plant motifs and with the regimental attribution "HIGH PEAK RIFLES " on the outside and the British Royal Crown on the inside.
At thericasso, on the outer face the classic interlocking triangles motif (often mistaken for a Star of David), with the brass pastille brass military acceptance pastille marked "PROVED",
On the inside, the maker's name:"HARRISON & BURNES SACKVILLE ST. LONDON " This is a renowned famous old house of sword makers/ sword dealers whose name was first Harisson, then Harrison & sons around 1830 and finally after the association of the Harrison sons with Joseph Burnes, Harrison & Burnes. Blade length = 84 cm, width at ricasso 2.7cm, thickness at ricasso = 17.8 mm
MOUNT : this is the one-piece iron guardcharacteristic of the model. On the outside, the crown and ribbon, the hunting horn, a coiled quillon, a knuckle bow and 3 secondary branches. Hole for the lanyard near the cap. Long-tailed cap. Stingray skin-covered fuse (fish skin).Original twisted copper wire binding in place.
SCABBARD: It is made of iron, has two suspension rings and ends in an asymmetrical protection part.
This is a pleasing saber, and may appeal to acollector, even if he or she is not a specialist in English weaponry, because of its aesthetic appeal and modest price.
