Pair Of Large Miniature Romantic Couple Costume Frame 1830
Pair of large Romantic couple miniatures circa 1830 French school
Beautiful pair of large painted miniatures, depicting portraits of a couple , presented in their black rectangular frames with oval view, gilded inner rod and domed glass.
The male portrait shows a man in a black frock coat with wide lapels, high white collar and red neck note, in an elegant mise, very characteristic of the Romantic bourgeoisie. The female portrait, in a belted blue dress, white lace collar and matching headdress, develops a softer, more domestic image, with fine work on curls, flesh and the transparency of lace. The diptych works very well: on one side the sober reserve and social dress, on the other the ordered grace and civility of the female portrait.
The workmanship is fine, sensitive, with well-individualized faces, delicate modelling of complexions and a definite taste for material effects, a fine French production from the first half of the 19th century, to be compared with the tradition of Augustin and Isabey, as well as the stylistic climate of the good hands for this period, among them Sicardi, Guérin, Laurent or François Dumont.
Good presentation condition. Wear and minor rubbing to the frames, light marks of age, old domed glass, some traces or dust visible under glass, one epidermure on the right edge of the Dame. Nice overall appearance of an antique, decorative and authentic pair. See photos.
