Carved Mahogany Glass-Fronted Shelf for Netsuke or Small Objects, China, circa 1930 – Cabinet of Curiosities. An elegant glass-fronted shelf designed to display small collectibles: netsuke, okimono, miniatures, or scholar's objects. Its structure features asymmetrical compartments, typical of Chinese curio shelves. The front is carved with floral scrolls, two dragons facing each other around the sacred pearl, and a bat (a symbol of good fortune). The interior is lined with red velvet. Two keys are included to lock the glass door. A Chinese workshop piece from the first half of the 20th century. The dragons and the bat – fu, meaning "good fortune" – frame an architecture of small, tiered shelves that adds a theatrical touch to the displayed items. The patina of the mahogany and the red lining suggest its manufacture between the two World Wars, reflecting a European Chinese influence. Carved mahogany, glass door, red velvet interior, working lock, two keys. Dimensions: Height 82 cm – Width 53 cm – Depth 11 cm. Good overall condition; visible side crack but no structural weakness. Glazing and hardware in place. Origin and dating: China, circa 1920–1940. Cabinet of curiosities, curio shelf, Chinese shelf, mahogany display case, dragons, fu bat, sacred pearl, scholar's furniture, netsuke shelf, okimono display case, 20th-century Chinese furniture, Asian art, Asian antiques, red display case, carved wood, collectible, wall display case, oriental decoration, exotic furniture, miniature display case
