Resting During The Flight To Egypt. 17th Century. Copper, Cantarini Surround. Bolonese School.
Artist: Entourage De Simone Cantarini
Magnificent 17th-century oil on copper by
Simone Cantarini, Bolognese school.
Represents "Resting during the Flight into Egypt".
Painted on a copper panel in good condition.
First half of the 17th century.
Some minor restorations.
The Bologna school of painting flourished between the 16th and 17th
centuries, rivaling Florence and Rome as a center of painting.
its most important representatives were the Carracci family, including
Ludovido Carracci and his two cousins, the brothers Agostino Carracci and
Annibale Carracci. Later, it includes other Baroque painters:
Le Dominiquin and Giovanni Lanfranco, active mainly in Rome,
eventually Le Guerchin and Guido Reni, SIMONE CANTARINI, and
the Bolonese Academy of the Incamminati which is directed by Lodovico
Carracci.
As far as our work is concerned, my research has led me
to compositions very comparable to those by Cantarini.
We can therefore assume that it was done by one of his pupils or followers.
The dimensions of the copper salt are, 23.5 cm x 18.5 cm.
It is presented in a French oak key frame also from the XVII
Century. in very good condition. Dimensions with painting, 28 cm x 24 cm.
No need for restoration.
