LOUIS DENIS-VALVÉRANE (1870 - 1943)
Louis Denis-Valvérane was a Provençal painter and illustrator, born on September 20, 1870, in Manosque, France, and died on April 11, 1943.A student of Jean-Paul Laurens, Louis Denis-Valvérane quickly embraced the Provençal Renaissance movement launched by Frédéric Mistral and the Félibrige. He studied painting in Paris and participated in the Provençal federalist movement of the 1890s, where he associated with figures such as Charles Maurras and José Mange.From 1901 onwards, he exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français, the Salon des Indépendants, and, among others, the Salon d'Hiver. He also established himself as a draftsman and comic strip artist, and was a regular contributor to Arthème Fayard publications during the Belle Époque, contributing to titles such as Le Bon Vivant.He was also an engraver. In 1925, he won the silver medal at the Salon des Artistes Français.
