"cordes-sur-ciel" By Maurice Georges Poncelet (1897-1978)
Artist: Maurice Georges Poncelet (1897-1978)
Maurice Georges Poncelet, born June 4, 1897, in Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin), died in 1978. He was a painter of animated compositions, genre scenes, landscapes, and still lifes. He received guidance from the Polish painter Wielhorski. Since the Second World War, he had settled in the provinces. He participated in group exhibitions, regularly at the Salon des Indépendants, the Salon d'Automne, and the Salon des Tuileries in Paris. In 1930, he was awarded the Blumenthal Prize. Poncelet, decorated with the Croix de Guerre 1939-1944, was an Officer of the Legion of Honor. Poncelet's work is remarkably consistent, and from his earliest canvases, painted at a very young age, he remained faithful to the same subjects and the same aesthetic, imbued with common sense and a love of nature. He enjoyed painting rustic or everyday scenes, such as hunting scenes, grape harvests, and fairground scenes. He also painted landscapes and still lifes.
