Haute couture evening long dress in celadon green silk jersey by Madame Grès (attributed to) and dating from the 1930s. Sleeveless peplum-style dress with large V-neckline, back zipper with organza pleat work. Stunning jersey pleatwork wraps around the bust, hugging the hips and ending in a point at the front and back. A pleated scarf extending from the right shoulder drapes down the back. The stretch silk jersey bottom was specially made for Grès by Maison Racine (Jersey Parthénon) throughout her career. Clean dress, with no holes or stains and no major flaws, although a few micro spots of rust remain discreetly. Good overall condition. Rare dress.

Germaine Emilie Krebs (1903 - 1993) known as "Alix", then "Alix Grès", and finally famous as Madame Grès. She started out in 1933 with a partner, Julie Barton, under the name Alix Barton, then, separated from her partner in 1934, launched her own business under the name Alix. She set up her own couture house in 1935 under the name Madame Grès in Faubourg saint Honoré. Her style was characterized by drapery and pure lines. In 1942, she moved to 1 Rue de la Paix, where she remained under the name Grès until 1988.
