An exciting and rare book from the early reign of Louis XIII. "Histoire du Monde de C. Pline Second" ; à Paris , chez Laurent Sonnius , rue Saint-Jacques ,au Coq & Compas d'Or , M. DC. XV. (1615) . This large, handsome copy is in folio, a large volume in glazed blond calf from the very early 17th century, presented in a fine binding, ribbed spine decorated with gilt irons and fleurons in the boxes, red morocco title, red edges and divided into two volumes. Collated & corrected from several Latin copies, both printed and handwritten, & enriched with annotations in the margin, & serving as a conference & declaration of the ancient names of the Cities, Regions, Simples & other obscure places & terms included therein. To which has been added "un Traité des poids et mesures antiques , réduites à la façon Française . With two tables, one very simple of the names & subjects contained in this History, the other used for the above-mentioned treatise of weights and measures . The whole put into French by Antoine du Pinet Seigneur de Noroy : & since in this fifth & last edition , increased by several books and difficult places , & still not explained .
