Important 16 Th-century Spanish Chest, Very Richly Carved With Beveled Lock Panels
Artist: Non Signé
A rare and beautiful piece of fine furniture, this substantial 16th-century Spanish chest features a richly carved paneled frame on three sides, crafted from stained walnut. This impressive piece is a rarity from times past and is well-preserved, complete with its forged steel front lock. Its presence inspires us and transports us to times gone by through its proportions and uniqueness, the decorative foliage motifs, such as those on the scalloped lower crossbar; it rests on equally ornate straight legs, and the four front panels alternate with equally ornate stiles. On the sides, there are two panels on each side featuring foliage motifs, separated by a fluted central stile. An exceptional piece of historical décor, remarkably well-preserved for its age, with a strong and powerful presence—a central decorative piece of furniture the likes of which are very rarely encountered.
