Covers bearing double coats of arms. This highly renowned work by the Dutch historian Gustave Henri Nieupoort (1670–1730), a professor at the University of Utrecht; his book, first published in Latin in 1712, was translated into French by Abbé Desfontaines and published anonymously in 1741 (rare), and is presented here in its equally rare second edition. A copy bearing the coat of arms of the Conte family on the front cover and, on the opposite page, the emblem featuring the instruments of the Passion of the Congregation of the Fathers of Christian Doctrine of Toulouse; at the beginning of the volume, there is a handwritten note and the seal of the former owners from the 19th century.
