Italian Anecdotes - 1769 - With The Coat Of Arms Of The Countess Of Provence
Italian Anecdotes – Paris, Vincent, 1769 – Bound with the arms of the Countess of Provence. A fine copy bound in contemporary full brown morocco, spine with raised bands and gilt decoration, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt arms in the center, gilt edges. The work, entitled Italian Anecdotes from the Destruction of the Roman Empire in the West to the Present Day, is a historical compilation characteristic of 18th-century court literature, blending political and religious history with anecdotal accounts of the main Italian states. The main interest of this copy lies in its armorial binding stamped with the arms of the Countess of Provence, wife of the future Louis XVIII. The arms, finely gilt, feature a shield with the fleurs-de-lis of France combined with those of the House of Savoy, beneath a princely crown. The binding is sound, with some wear consistent with age, minor wear to the headcaps and corners, and the interior is generally clean. Published in Paris by Vincent. 11 x 17 cm
