Amadis de Gaule is a Spanish chivalric novel published by Garci Rodríguez in 1508 in Saragossa. It is a new version of a chivalric novel that greatly inspired Cervantes for his Don Quixote. Montalvo's work was adapted into French by Nicolas Herberay des Essarts, whose translation was first published by Denis Janot, Vincent Sertenas and Jehan Longis in 1540 in Paris.
