L. Bazzaro (1853–1937), “fishing For Shellfish”, 1891, Important Oil On Canvas

Artist: Leonardo Bazzaro (milano 1853 - 1937)
An important oil on canvas signed L. Bazzaro, dating to the artist's most significant period.
The painting dates back to the years when Luigi Bazzaro stayed in Chioggia (1883–1896), a particularly successful and refined phase of his career. During this period, the artist developed a painting style of great expressive power, characterized by a rich, textured impasto, energetic and deep brushstrokes, and vibrant use of light—elements typical of the Lombard Scapigliatura sensibility of the late 19th century.
The work stands out for its pictorial quality and the intensity of the light, which constructs the forms with decisiveness and immediacy, giving the scene a strong visual impact.
On the back is an old label bearing a small print of Venice and the inscription:
"La pesca delle mollucche – Roma 1891".
- Exhibited at the Rome Quadrennial 1891 no. 55
- XXIV Milanese Antiques Market Exhibition
- Cited by S. Pagani in "Lombard Painting of the Scapigliatura"
- 1955, p. 281. Authentication by L. Colombo, Carini Gallery
- Committee of Experts for the Exhibition
- Published in De Agostini 1997-1998, p. 28
- Exhibited at the Aosta Archaeological Museum, "L. Bazzaro – A Master of 19th-Century Italy between the Aosta Valley and the Venetian Lagoon," December-March 1998/99 and published in the catalog published by G. Mondadori, p. 33
