Paperbound reliquary - Relic of the True Cross and relics of saints - 18th century - Italy

Beautifully sized oval-shaped reliquary, presented under glass, with rich decoration of gilded paperolles and metallic threads on a red textile background.

Description

In the center is a major relic identified by handwritten inscription "Ex Ligno S.S. Crucis D.N.", corresponding to a fragment of the True Cross of Our Lord.

Around, in radiating composition, 6 saintly relics are carefully arranged in frames of cut and handwritten paper. They include:

- Saint Andrew the Apostle (S. Andreae Ap.)
- Saint Anne (S. Annae)
- Maria
- Saint Zenobii
- Saint Joseph (S. Josephi)
- Saint Francis (S. Francisci)

The ensemble displays typical 18th-century workmanship, characterized by a symmetrical layout, finely executed paperolle decoration and a devotional presentation centered on the relic of the Holy Cross.

Metal mount with hanging bracket.

Condition

Some minor age-related wear and alterations, without affecting the main legibility.

In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as an object of sacred art. The relics it contains are not the object of the transaction, but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
