Antique Indian Bronze Hanuman Hindu Monkey God Carrying Mountain, 19th Century

A small and expressive antique Indian bronze figure depicting Hanuman, the Hindu monkey god, shown in a dynamic pose carrying the Sanjeevani mountain.

The figure is finely cast in bronze and represents the Hindu monkey god Hanuman mid-stride, holding aloft a stylised rocky mountain in one hand. This scene illustrates the famous episode from the Ramayana in which Hanuman carries the healing mountain to save Lakshmana. His monkey features, long tail, and devotional jewellery are clearly rendered, and he carries a large club (gada), one of his principal attributes, over his shoulder.

The modelling is lively and characterful, with a naïve charm typical of vernacular devotional bronzes intended for personal or domestic shrine use rather than formal temple sculpture. The figure stands on its original integral base.
