Georgian Blackamoor Seal Fob Intaglio Agate Pendant In 18k Gold
Blackamoor seal pendant in 18 karat gold. The pendant-seal features a blackamoor head, finely carved from banded agate. The carving reveals several layers of color – white, black, and brown. The pendant ends with a gold seal finely chased with arabesques. Below, an intaglio is engraved on orange-colored agate. It depicts the profile of an old man, perhaps a philosopher, a god, or a hero from Greek mythology – Priam, Plato, Socrates, Jupiter, or Hercules. This seal pendant dates from the late 18th century, Italy or France.
