Important Romanesque Baroque Showcase In Wood And Gilded With Pure Gold. Second Half 17th C.
Artist: à Etudier
Furnishings of this type were commissioned to house a collection's most precious and fragile objects.
Examples of this type were created in Rome between the second half of the 17th century and the early 18th century, often drawing on the ideas developed by architects and decorators trained in the school of Bernini (similar furnishings are preserved in the Sacchetti collection in Rome).
This display case is curved on all three sides and is characterized by elegant decorative elements featuring finely carved plant motifs:
A rich upper cornice; the two rear pilasters are surmounted by pinnacles at the bottom, while the two front pilasters are carved to resemble floating volutes. The upper cornice is bordered by four pinnacles in the shape of torch holders.
The carving on the frames of the upper and side glass panes and the central door is meticulously crafted; the lower section features one small drawer and three mirrors, also carved and gilded.
The piece is in excellent condition; the glass, including that of the upper part, is original.
Provenance: Noble Roman family
Its dimensions are: 94cm long x 35cm deep x 110cm high.
