18th Pair Of Georgian Sterling Silver Candlesticks Orlando Jackson London 1772
A pair of English sterling silver candlesticks in the Georgian style, London 1772.
The design is typical of 18th-century London: Corinthian column-shaped, they feature stepped bases with ribbed edges, bamboo-style stems, acanthus leaf finials, and removable ribbed mouthpieces. They bear the complete hallmarks around the base: the lion passant for 925 sterling silver, the crowned leopard's head for the city of London, the letter R for 1772, and the initials O.J. for the silversmith Orlando Jackson. The design is enriched with an embossed decoration on the base, a male head, and a dragon surmounted by a crown.
