Impressive Baroque altar predella in richly carved and gilded wood, Italy, first half of the 18th century.
The predella served as a base or decoration for altarpieces; created in the 14th century, it was initially decorated with stories and scenes related to the main subject, later becoming a carved and gilded decorative base.
In excellent condition, our predella features well-preserved original gold leaf gilding.
