Devotional shrine dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria, Italy, 18th century.
The shrine is shaped like a polylobed frame containing a crown, a dagger, and a ring in solid silver. These are the iconographic attributes of Saint Catherine of Alexandria: the crown symbolizes her noble origins, the ring refers to her mystical marriage to Christ, while the sword or dagger (often combined with a cogwheel) represents her martyrdom.
The crown and dagger bear the 800 hallmark; the silver weight of the three objects is 400 grams.
