The Canal At Saint-denis, Gouache, Signed Georges Joubin (1888-1983), Montmartre School
Artist: Georges Joubin
Le canal at Saint-Denis, gouache, signed Georges Joubin (1888-1983), Montmartre School.
Georges Joubin (1888-1983) was a French painter trained in Paris, a student of Jean-Pierre Laurens and then Gabriel Ferrier. Settling in Montmartre in 1912, he participated in the founding of the Montmartre School, championing a painting rooted in reality.
"While he painted still lifes, flowers, portraits, and nudes, it is in his cityscapes, of Paris, of his neighborhood with its street vendors and bustling activity, that he is most true to his personality. A vigorous realist, in the tradition of Marquet, he remained attached to the style of the 1930s, where forms are clearly defined and colors are applied in flat planes."
