Paperolles Reliquary With Paschal Lamb, 19th Century

A rare 19th-century reliquary frame with paper filigree decoration, featuring a central motif of a Paschal/Mystical Lamb and surmounted by a brass crucifix with fleurons. This moving reliquary is presented in a molded and gilded wooden frame, containing a religious composition under glass. At its center is a cross adorned with Christ, accompanied at its base by a Paschal/Mystical Lamb (Agnus Dei) symbolizing the sacrificed Christ. The whole is flanked by two antique devotional engravings, one of the Virgin and Child and the other of the Sacred Heart, arranged within an elaborate paper filigree design. The upper section is surmounted by an elegant brass globe topped with a cross. The reverse of the reliquary is closed by a panel preserving a fragment of antique 18th-century wallpaper. It is in fine condition with an authentic antique patina. Wear and minor imperfections are consistent with age.
