Kilim Kaba. Azerbaijan. Circa 1880. 405 X 168 Cm
A magnificent Kuba kilim originating from Azerbaijan in the Caucasus. The piece possesses all the characteristics of antique Caucasian kilims, beginning with the fineness and regularity of its wool-on-wool weave. The weaver's experience and dexterity are evident in every square centimeter. The piece is supple and surprisingly light considering its impressive dimensions. Secondly, the colors are the primary element for estimating its age. Here, they are deep and luminous—in other words, dense and saturated. The durability of these colors spans centuries. They require a very large quantity of plant and other natural pigments, a skill that has almost completely disappeared. One is guided by a powerful red ochre field containing four large medallions, each protected by a series of snapdragons. The borders are enlivened by uninterrupted geometric patterns in magnificent apricot tones. This piece has just been fully restored in our workshop. The surface, edges, and stitching have been executed with meticulous attention to detail, allowing this extraordinary kilim to be reborn and display its original freshness. Visually, one is captivated by its impressive proportions, its luminosity, the harmony of its colors, a certain softness, and a highly graphic appearance. All of this makes it a highly decorative piece that simply needs a beautiful space to truly shine... Circa 1880. Exceptional condition. Dimensions: 405 x 168 cm. Laurent Beauty of Kilims
