Artist: "la Grandeur De L'âme Allonge La Courte Lame"
French sword with a colichemarde hilt, a "donkey's step" hilt, and silver fittings from the late 17th or early 18th century.
A beautiful and large French colichemarde sword with a "donkey's step" hilt and bronze shell guard.Trophies (bows, arrows, horns, swords, etc.) are engraved on either side of the colichemarde blade, along with the motto: "The greatness of the soul lengthens the short blade." The "donkey's step" hilt features a symmetrical double shell guard. The silver wire grip fitting is present in its original condition, and, as is often the case, the scabbard is missing. Length: 104 cmBlade width at the ricasso: 3 cm
The blade, called a "colichemarde," is the German name for the "franc-toupin" sword used in the 16th century. It is a blade with a thick base that tapers abruptly after a certain distance and ends in a diamond-shaped point. It is a hybrid weapon, capable of both thrusting and cutting.
