"Child's Sword - France, Late 17th To Early 18th Century"
Child's sword - France, late 17th/early 18th century. The hilt has a single branch and quillon, a bivalve shell guard, and a ball pommel. The entire piece is damascened in silver (the damascened decoration is very well preserved). The grip is made of wood encircled with copper wire. The double-edged blade is four-sided with a central flat near the hilt, then four-sided again towards the point. Engravings are present on both sides of the four-sided section with the central flat. One side depicts a gallant scene with a gentleman and a lady; the other likely bears the cutler's mark (I cannot decipher it). In good condition for its age, with no play in the blade. Weight: 300g. Length: 70cm. Blade length: 57cm.
