"Anthropomorphic Mask With A Bun - Himalayas, Nepal"
Anthropomorphic mask with a forelock - Himalayas, Western NepalProbably 1st half of the 20th century or earlier. The mask has an imposing nose, a well-defined mustache and a wide open mouth with visible teeth. The top of the skull has a wooden point that could represent the typical bun worn by men in the Humla region. This wooden forelock is used to fix the mask with a long piece of fabric that then wraps around the face. This mask does not have a carrying hole as is also the case for many masks from this region.34 cm X 20 cmProvenance: Acquired at auction in 2019 in Paris from the Copages auction house.
