Wakmann Mechanical Watch With Alarm, 1950s Style, Steel On Leather

Artist: Wakmann
A 1950s WAKMANN watch, mechanical with manual winding. This watch features a striking/alarm complication, controlled by two separate crowns for setting the watch time and the striking time independently. The crown at 2 o'clock sets the alarm, indicated by the red arrow. Founded in 1946 in New York, the Wakmann Watch Company quickly became known for its expertise in precision watchmaking, particularly chronographs and watches for aviation. In the 1950s, Wakmann formed a strategic partnership with the Swiss brand Breitling, allowing it to specialize in pilot's watches and aeronautical timing instruments. Wakmann was, in fact, Breitling's distributor in the United States, due to a US law regarding the importation of Swiss watches—the watches arrived pre-assembled before being finished in the US. The watch is signed. In perfect condition and serviced, its proper functioning is guaranteed by us for one year (except in case of shock or immersion). Its crystal is plexiglass, as was typical of the period, and the case back is screwed down.
