Marius Barthalot (1861-1955) "cap Saint-louis, Les Lecques To Saint-cyr-sur-mer (var)" Provence
Artist: Marius Barthalot
BARTHALOT Marius (1861 - 1955)
"Cape Saint-Louis, Les Lecques in Saint-Cyr sur Mer (Var)"
Oil on canvas,
Signed lower left,
Beautiful work by the Marseilles painter Marius Barthalot which represents a view of Cap Saint-Louis in Les Lecques in Saint Cyr sur Mer in the Var. In the foreground, a fisherman can be seen on his boat leaving the quay. In the background, one can see the small port of the Saint Louis district and the garages of the former Belle Époque houses.
A rare historical record of the Saint-Louis district, before the area was concreted over in the 1970s with the creation of the port and a parking lot!
A student of Dominique Magaud in Marseille, then of Alexandre Cabanel, Léon Bonnat, and Casimir de Saint-Pierre in Paris, Marius Barthalot exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1885 to 1934, where he received numerous awards for his luminous canvases.
The artist painted views of Marseille, Avignon, Martigues, and Les Lecques.
Our painting can be paired with the artist's other work currently for sale, "La Villa Bellevue, Les Lecques à Saint-Cyr sur Mer (Var)."
Dimensions: 43.5 x 55 cm unframed and 57 x 69 cm with its original giltwood frame. (Old gilding repairs should be noted on the frame)
