Medieval Offering Dish Known As The "nuremberg Dish" With A Seated Stag – 15th Century
Medieval Offering Dish, Known as a "Nuremberg Dish," with a Seated Stag – 15th Century.
This charming repoussé brass offering dish, known as a "Nuremberg dish," features a seated stag in its center, within a design organized around two concentric circles.
The rim is adorned at its end with an elegant, stamped frieze, characteristic of this type of production.
Widely produced in the late Middle Ages, this type of dish is traditionally associated with Nuremberg, a major center for its manufacture. However, workshops in other regions, particularly Flanders, also contributed to its production.
Dishes of this type are generally dated between 1475 and 1525. In his reference work, Beckenschlägerschüsseln (15th-16th centuries), Tamas Egyeki-Szabo proposes a more precise dating for this model, placing it in the second half of the 15th century.
Our small example features a clearly legible design and a beautiful antique patina. It is in good overall condition, although there is a small chip of approximately 4 cm at the top, which does not detract from the overall appearance.
Diameter: 22 cm.
An authentic and decorative piece, representative of late medieval German and Flemish craftsmanship.
Price excludes shipping.
Police Register Ref: A017.
