A parlor oratory in solid walnut. Brazil, 17th century.
Height 128 cm; Width 60.5 cm; Depth 25 cm. Topped with a broadly shaped and sculpted pediment, it opens with two doors, each with two simulated panels. The dovetailed frame is highlighted at its base by a generous molding, as well as by a fillet and a molding forming a cornice in its upper part. The interior panels retain some traces of polychromy depicting religious scenes, including Saint Anthony, Saint Sebastian, and Saint Remi. The sculpture of the Virgin is for sale separately.

Museums Brazil: - Flávio Gutierrez Cultural Institute / The Oratory Museum was inaugurated in 1998 in the city of Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, in the 18th-century building belonging to the Venerable Third Order of Carmo, which was completely restored and adapted to house the Museum. It presents a magnificent collection of 162 oratories and 300 images from the 17th to the 20th centuries. The pieces in the collection were donated to IPHAN (National Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage) by the collector Angela Gutierrez and are authentically Brazilian, primarily from Minas Gerais. The museum's documentation is freely accessible. The Museum of Sacred Art of São Paulo is the result of an agreement signed between the State Government and the Archdiocesan Mithra of São Paulo. The Museum occupies part of the Monastery of Nossa Senhora da Imaculada Conceição da Luz. The museum's documentation is freely accessible.
