"Silver Ciborium, France, Late 19th Century "
A silver ciborium resting on a circular base with a stepped and molded edge. The base is decorated with repoussé work depicting aquatic plants, leafy rosettes, and lanceolate leaves on a guilloché background, within a polylobed frame that is also found on the ciborium's lid. The stem is adorned with a torus molding and a collar. It supports a hemispherical cup set within a false cup with cut and repoussé floral ornamentation. The lid is surmounted by a fleur-de-lis cross. France, late 19th century. 950/1000 silver, Minerva hallmarks on all elements, including the cross. Silversmith: Favier brothers. Height: 27.5 cm. Diameter of the base: 12.3 cm. Net weight: 309 g. Gross weight: 381 g (base lined with a metal wall). Very good condition, wear to the gilding inside the bowl.
