Japanese Meiji Period Celadon Ceramic Pot (late 19th century)
Dimensions:
Width: 26 cm
Height: 18.5 cm
An elegant celadon-glazed ceramic pot from Japan, raised on three small feet. The body is decorated in relief with blossoming prunus branches, enhanced with a delicate underglaze blue decoration, standing out harmoniously against a soft and luminous celadon green ground.
The piece combines finely modeled relief and painted decoration, in a manner characteristic of Meiji period Japanese production, where Chinese ceramic influences were reinterpreted with great decorative freedom. The contrast between the white relief blossoms and the blue detailing gives the whole a fresh and refined visual appeal.
The interior, partially left unglazed, features a central drainage hole, confirming its use as a planter or cache-pot.
Condition: excellent overall condition.
Gallery’s note:
A particularly charming decorative object, typical of Japanese export wares from the late 19th century. The softness of the celadon glaze combined with the delicacy of the floral decoration makes it an elegant piece, easy to integrate into both classical and contemporary interiors.
