Roland Dubuc - A Lively Street In Rouen
Artist: Roland Dubuc (1924-1998)
Roland Dubuc (1924-1998) - Busy Street in Rouen, 1971.
Watercolor, signed and dated lower right.
55 x 42 cm.
In Rouen, Dubuc met Le Trividic and Fréchon, then moved to Le Havre in the mid-1940s before trying his luck in Paris in 1950. There, he struggled to make a living from his art and took on a variety of odd jobs. He even went so far as to sell a Wallace fountain to American tourists who arrived the next day, armed with pickaxes, and returned empty-handed. His reputation grew. He exhibited works at the Grand Palais in the exhibition "The Greats and the Young of Today." The Petit Palais purchased some of his paintings.
The last painter of Montmartre from the era of Genin, Utrillo, and Gen-Paul, Dubuc painted throughout his life with the same expressionist verve. He would return to settle in Normandy at the twilight of his life.
