Reliquary Capsule “s.caroli Borom.” Ex Ossibus” With Authentic Episcopal Seal, Dated 1755

A printed and handwritten document in Latin, dated 1755, from D. Eusebius de Cianis, Bishop of Massa and Populonia, concerning the authentication of sacred relics. The document is particularly remarkable for the presence of a sealed reliquary capsule, attached to the document by a cord. This capsule contains a relic identified by the handwritten inscription: "S. Caroli Boro," referring to Charles Borromeo (Saint Charles Borromeo). The capsule (3 x 2.5 cm) is sealed on the reverse with a red wax episcopal seal, guaranteeing the authenticity of the relic, in accordance with ecclesiastical practice. The document itself serves as an authentic instrument, attesting to the origin and validity of the relic. It is in good condition considering its age: creases, soiling, small tears, and marginal wear.
