Alfred Bastien (1873-1955) was a Belgian Post-Impressionist painter known for his figure compositions, landscapes, seascapes, war and genre scenes, still lifes, and portraits. He was also an Orientalist. He studied under Jean Delvin at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent and under Jean Portaels in Brussels. He received the Godecharle Prize in 1897. He embarked on a long journey through many countries in Europe and North Africa (1897), including the Congo, India, China, and Japan, from where he sent back numerous works. A founding member of Le Sillon and a member of the Royal Academy of Belgium, he was a professor and later director of the Brussels Academy. Works in the Museums of Antwerp, Ghent, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. Artist listed in Bénézit, Arto, and Piron (with signed examples). Listed on Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc.
