Marie Howet, 1897-1984, Belgian artist, student of Van Strydonck and Constant Montald at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. She was Grand Prix de Rome for painting in 1922. Member of the jury for the Prix de Rome (1931 to 1950) and the Salon d'Automne in Paris (1925). Member of the Royal Societies of Fine Arts and Watercolourists but also of the Belgian Women's Artistic Federation. Numerous personal exhibitions in Belgium and abroad (France, Italy, Argentina, Egypt). Works in Belgian (Museum of Walloon Art and Museums of Brussels, Antwerp, Ixelles and Tournai) and foreign (France, Switzerland, Ireland, Holland, Greece, Italy, Egypt, United States) collections and museums. Important bibliography. Marie Howet, great lady of painting, instinctive artist, having pushed to the extreme the power of suggestion of one of her preserves: watercolour. Marie Howet had known, very young, the nascent Fauvism. With a classical education, she had rubbed shoulders in Paris between 1925 and 1927 with these protesting heirs to Impressionism. She will keep a very personal way of modulating her palette, passing with delight from the luminous decorations of the Greek islands to the delicately colored mists of Ireland, her favorite lands in the same way as the meanders of the Semois, which she contemplated from the top of its perch at Rochehaut. Artist listed in Bénézit, Arto and Piron. Listed Artprice, Artnet, Mayer, Akoun, etc...
