The Old Flower Paintings category features a beautiful oil painting on canvas, a floral still life from the early 20th century.
It is a pleasant still life depicting a bouquet, a bunch of white carnations or small peoniesin a clear glass vase.
Next to the vase of white carnations is a closed book, slightly tilted, which adds an intimate, domestic tone to the scene.
Bright light filters from the background through a curtain, creating soft shadows and reflections on the table and in the glass of the vase.
The canvas painting is signed lower right by F. Guillermin, a French painter known for his portraits and flower paintings.
Francisque Guillermin (1878–1947) was born in Montrevel (Isère). He collaborated with the renowned portraitist François Guiguet,
from whom he learned a great deal about the precision of painting techniques. He then worked for a decorator in Valence.
He exhibited in Paris and at the Salon des Artistes Français, and became a partner. He decorated the ceiling of the
Brasserie Georges in Lyon, an iconic venue that is still open today.
In 1937, he received the Prix de la Société Lyonnaise des Beaux-Arts. The painting is housed in an original, carved wooden frame.
The oil painting and frame have been carefully and professionally restored.
BISGART COLLECTION, is located in our showroom, where there are many other old works, including still lifes with flowers.
