Engraved Portrait Of Madame De Lamballe, A Royalist Historical Memento In Its Gilded Wooden Frame
A royalist engraving from the Restoration period, an interesting historical royalist memento dating from the early 19th century, during the Restoration, in its original giltwood frame. It is a bust portrait of Madame de Lamballe, Queen Marie Antoinette's closest friend, one of the unfortunate first victims of the Revolution, whose head the queen discovered with horror on a pike displayed at her window. This is a beautiful collector's item and an interesting royalist historical memento, bearing witness to the "making of heroes" of the counter-revolution under the Bourbon Restoration. The piece is in good condition. The gold leaf gilding has been cleaned by our gilder, and the engraving is clean with some traces of damp stains. Frame: 25.3cm x 19.5cm
