Circle of Claude Déruet. Oil on canvas, "The Holy Family with a Branch of White Lilies," unsigned. 56 x 42.3 cm. French School. Claude Déruet (1588-1660) studied in Rome for several years before returning to Nancy, his birthplace, where his work was recognized by the local aristocracy and bourgeoisie. King Louis XIII was full of praise for him, ennobling the painter and making him a Knight of the Order of Saint Michael. Later, he stayed with the queen at the residence of the renowned Nancy artist. This painting dates from the first half of the 17th century. The precision of its composition, the quality of the landscapes in the background, and the tenderness it conveys suggest that its creator was a talented associate of the famous Nancy painter. Unframed. The painting was relined during the 20th century. Good condition. €1900.
